Sharon Hawke

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Ngāti Mahuta

Sharon is indigenous to Aotearoa and descends proudly from the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Ngāti Mahuta tribes. In her former life she was a Producer in Documentary and Current affairs for film and television. 

She has been arrested three times on her land at Bastion Point/ Takaparawhau and charged with Wilful Trespass on land she fought to retain. 

She has interests in science, marine biology and waka ama. She spends more time on the sea than on land. Her undergrad degrees in Science and Health Science were deferred due to politics and a daughter.  

She is a mother of a 16 year old daughter whose first language is Te Reo Māori. 

Sharon works full-time as a professional director on several iwi boards and other non-government organisations. 

She is a writer and has worked on many health and community projects during her non-film career. 

She has worked towards affecting change for the betterment of communities within Tāmaki and Aotearoa in general. She comes from a long line of storytelling women and is a direct descendant of the paramount chief of Tāmaki Nui (Auckland). She will share her people’s perspective of colonialism in her homeland.
